Sellers' description;
The FreedMan chair, built by Osteopath Simon Freedman, has been designed to create a seat that allows the spine to achieve the same posture in sitting as it has when standing. Freedman's mission was to create a chair that allows people to sit correctly and comfortably, whilst having a positive impact on their wellbeing.
The seat portion of the FreedMan chair has a downward angle of 27 degrees, unlike normal ergonomic seats that have a flat horizontal seat. This downward angle maintains the natural lumbar lordosis and allows the back, and its musculature, to be relaxed whilst it is held in a straight and upright position. The abdomen and mid back are also held in open, relaxed positions which they believe leads to both digestive and respiratory benefit.
The contoured seat pads effectively hold each ischial tuberosity, or sitting bone, as a gentle hand would do. The pads have a series of holes drilled into them to increase grip and prevent sliding forward, which stresses muscles in the back and thighs and can lead to fatigue. The precise contour of the seat pads reduce and even eliminate the need for padding.
The six back balls of the FreedMan chair have inbuilt flexibility, and as the sitter leans back against them they offer some pressure into the back muscles via a degree of sprung resistance. The sitter can vary the level of pressure of the balls into the back as they wish.
The FreedMan chair pads have an inbuilt instability, of just a few degrees of movement, which allows the trunk of the sitter to gently wobble and flex, thereby aiding the circulation of blood and the healthy function of the whole of the body. The FreedMan chair pads allow for a small degree of auto-adjustment and should be comfortable for just about everyone, irrespective of their size.
